Since Chael Sonnen has been fairly complimentary towards Jon Jones as the two head into their UFC 159 tilt, the trash talk spotlight has moved to Michael Bisping and Alan Belcher, who apparently don’t care for one another.
Bisping went out of his way to insult Belcher during a media call earlier this week, by calling the noted striker’s career “pathetic” and promising to “slap your little face.” Those sound like fighting words no?
While speaking with Fightline today at a UFC 159 media event, Bisping shed some light on why he’s been so riled up as he prepares to face Belcher.
“I don’t trash talk for the sake of it,” Bisping said. “If it’s all cordial and they’re cool and this and that, I’ll be cool…Alan Belcher’s been making videos, acting like a bit of an idiot, embarrassing himself, and because of that he’s going to get embarrassed Saturday night.”
Saturday’s bout is a huge one for both Bisping and Belcher, as both men need wins to remain in the contender’s circle. Bisping was stopped in highlight reel fashion by Vitor Belfort in January, after working his way to a unanimous decision win over Brian Stann in September. Before that Bisping dropped a tightly contested decision to Chael Sonnen at UFC on FOX 2 last January.
Belcher is coming off a decision loss to Yushin Okami, for the second time, which ended a four fight win streak that included wins over Rousimar Palhares, Jason MacDonald, Wilson Gouveia and Patrick Cote.
This tilt should be fantastic, not just because of the animosity, but because of each man’s Octagon talents.
