The UFC is pulling all stops to keep from cancelling another event. In an astounding turn of events, UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva offers his services once again to save a UFC event. It has just been verified by the UFC that 153 will now feature Anderson Silva versus Stephan Bonnar at light heavyweight as the main event on Oct. 13 in Rio, Brazil. The news comes a day after the announcement that UFC 153 had lost both its main and co-main event bout.

With the news of the headline match-up also comes the announcement of Glover Teixeira vs. fellow Brazilian Fabio Maldonado, as well as Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira versus Dave Herman.

Stephan Bonnar may be considered more than “The American Psycho” for taking the fight against the current unanimous pound-for-pound champ, but the TUF season one runner-up has already cemented a legacy as the spark that lit the UFC on fire. Now he has a chance to say he fought the best in the world as he comes into the bout with three straight victories, including a full-out war rematch against Krzysztof Soszynski at UFC 116.

The list of accomplishments by the champ are too long to entail here. As of late The Spider has been seen taking out nemesis Chael Sonnen for the second time at UFC 148 in July. Prior to that the list has included Yushin Okami, Vitor Belfort, Demian Maia, and…. Forrest Griffin, which happens to be the last light heavyweight battle Silva had been involved in and happens to also be the other half to the spark that lit the UFC. Silva had dismantled a concussed Griffin in the first with a KO punch that looked like a mere jab. Hopefully we will see more of a war with Bonnar in the cage.

Here is the current line-up now for UFC 153: Silva vs. Bonnar.
