Nate Diaz entered the Octagon for The Ultimate Fighter Season 18 Finale as a slight betting underdog (+115), but the Cesar Gracie product needed barely half a round to stop Gray Maynard on punches, earning a memorable victory in the night’s main event.

Diaz, 18-9 of Stockton, CA, went back and forth in a standup exchange to begin the bout against Maynard, of Santa Cruz, CA, before hitting a spectacular harai-goshi hip throw. Maynard recovered quickly to his feet but was staggered by a Diaz straight left. The wiry southpaw kept the punches coming, as Maynard staggered around the Octagon — before the bout was finally halted at 2:38 of round one.

Maynard drops to 12-4-1. Both have contested bouts for the lightweight title, and Diaz continued to campaign for title shots for both himself and his teammate Gilbert Melendez in a post-fight interview. He also offered credit to his coaches, and frequent trainer partner Ronda Rousey.

At the TUF 18 Finale, Nate Diaz defeats Gray Maynard by TKO (2:38) of round one.
