The Ultimate Fighter Brazil Season 2 has not even aired yet, but the finale’s fight card is planned. The first season ended on the UFC 147 PPV, but the card was underwhelming at best. However, it looks like the UFC has learned from their mistakes. This card is going to be free, and it is rumored to be UFC on Fuel TV 10 at Ginasio Paulo Sarasate in Fortaleza, Brazil, on June 8, 2013. The main event will be a match between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fabricio Werdum, who coached the season. Dana White said that Werdum would earn a title shot if he beats Nogueira.
Two welterweight bouts were announced for the card – one between Ildemar Alcantara and Jason High, and one between Erick Silva and John Hathaway. Alcantara is the definition of a fighter, because the natural welterweight took a fight at light-heavyweight on short notice just to earn a spot in the UFC. He won the bout, submitting Wagner Prado by kneebar. He takes on High, who is making his second run in the Octagon. In his first run, he lost a decision to Charlie Brenneman, but he will be riding a seven-fight win streak into his fight with Alcantara.
This will be Silva’s first fight since his loss to Jon Fitch, and he will be taking on one of the most underrated fighters at welterweight. John Hathaway has gone 7-1 in the Octagon, with his only loss coming to top contender Mike Pyle. This fight will be a contrast of styles. Silva has a “go for broke” style and has finished all but three of his fights. Hathaway, on the other hand, has only finished one of his seven bouts in the Octagon. Maybe a brawler like Silva will push Hathaway to be a finisher.
