Thiago Silva has one simple theory going for him as he prepares to make his return to the UFC.

Silva was arrested and looked to be headed to jail on charges of attempted murder before authorities decided to stop pursuing any possible imprisonment of the welterweight. He served 30 days while awaiting trial.

Shortly after, UFC officials announced they had resigned Silva, who went 7-3 during his previous run inside the Octagon.

“People will forget,” said Silva, during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour. “They always do.”

Silva has moved on from his estranged wife, finding a new girlfriend who is expecting a child. He is rehabbing a knee injury that forced him out of a planned August fight with a local Florida promotion.

This past February, Silva was involved in a late-night incident in Florida involving his former wife and a Brazilian jiu-jitsu instructor. It had been reported that he held both at gunpoint, but Silva said “The truth is they didn’t find no proof.

“I never pointed any gun at my ex-wife, I never tried to hurt (her). Everything she said was a lie,” he continued. “So that’s the truth. The state, they couldn’t prove another thing, so that’s the truth. I’m just glad the truth came out.”

Authorities dropped the charges after his ex-wife left the country.

Silva stated that the only thing he learned from the whole ordeal was to “not trust girls.” He also was not interested in discussing the whole ordeal, instead trying to focus on his fighting future. He eventually opened up about certain aspects of it, though.

“I don’t want to talk about that,” he said. “I’m here to talk about my professional fights, my comeback to the UFC. I really don’t want to talk about my (personal) life.

“I think that’s not good for me. I don’t want to work with this anymore. I’m done with that.”

Silva believes his wife “set me up” because he was seeking a divorce and wanted money in the settlement, but the fighter “didn’t want to give the money.”

“I just wanted the divorce,” he said. “I didn’t want to stay with the girl anymore. She wanted a lot, she asked for a lot of money to sign the divorce. I said no, she set me up. That’s it.”
