The champion, Anderson Silva will not get to defend his title in front of his home country as he originally requested. Instead the challenger Chael Sonnen will now compete for the title in front of his.
The UFC has been forced to move the originally planned June 23, UFC 147 headliners to UFC 148 due to logistic issues spanning from a United Nations meeting taking place days before the event. TUF coaches, Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz were originally set to headline the event. With the change, comes a demotion for the two as they will now serve as the co-main event.
UFC 148 will take place July 7 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
No word of any other changes to the card which would leave a star-studded cast intact.
