Diego Sanchez has returned with a controversial win, earning a split decision over Takanori Gomi in front of the booing Japan crowd at the Saitama Super Arena.

For three rounds “The Fireball” kid looked to out-strike a kickboxing improved Sanchez, standing. switching stances and landing unorthodox hooks, it looked to be Gomi landing the better of the shots. First round was the only round in question (IMO) as Sanchez dropped for a knee bar attempt against the high level submission specialist. Outside of that the battle was a standing brawl. A favorite of both, but only one man was able to walk away with the decision.

Diego Sanchez defeatsĀ Takanori Gomi via unanimous decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

“The Dream” may have missed weight, forfeiting 20% of his purse, but he will stillĀ  stand with a rebound win from his recent war with Jake Ellenberger in Feb. 2012 where he lost a controversial decision (retribution?). It was over a year layoff Sanchez had dealt with prior, in recovery from shoulder surgery.
