The search for Shane Carwin’s replacement for Dec. 15th’s The Ultimate Fighter Finale appears to be over as MMAFighting.com have reported that fellow former TUF winner Matt Mitrione will now face Roy “Big Country” Nelson in a battle of two former TUF 10 contestants.
Both fighters have apparently verbally agreed to the fight, despite Nelson’s camp declining to comment on the potential match-up.
Mitrione (5-1) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to veteran Cheick Kongo at UFC 137, but was on five-fight win streak prior to the loss. “Meat head” has been sidelined since Oct. 2011 due to injuries and timing. Originally scheduled to fight Phil De Fries at UFC 155, that has now been scratched.
