UFC President Dana White surprised many of us when he announced that Anderson Silva could receive the next shot at the UFC Middleweight Championship.

At UFC 183, the former 185 lb kingpin Silva fights Nick Diaz, in Diaz’s first-ever bout at 185 lbs. If Silva should win, he will get another shot — possibly at current champ Chris Weidman, who has defeated Silva in his last two bouts.

The situation had our own Jim Genia memorably remarking, “Dana White wants Anderson Silva dead.”

Ronaldo “Jacaré” Souza is currently the number two ranked middleweight on the UFC roster. One might expect him to be irritated about being possibly leapfrogged by Silva.

“It doesn’t worry me one bit,” Souza told Globe.com in a recent interview. “I’m a Christian man and I will not worry about things in life. If that happens, it’s because it was God’s choice, and I’ll support Anderson… I won’t get mad.”

Weidman will defend against Silva and Souza’s fellow Brazilian, Vitor Belfort, next month at UFC 184.

“Jacaré” also mentions that while he will be rooting for Belfort, he’s ready to fight either.

“We need the belt,” Souza said. “The faster you come to Brazil, the better.”
