Almost 13 years after the UFC’s Ultimate Brazil card in October of 1998, the UFC has announced that they will return to the motherland of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The event was announced earlier today in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil by UFC President Dana White, and Owner Lorenzo Fertita and said to be a major pay-per-view event that will take place August 27, 2011 from the HSBC Arena in Rio with a seating capacity of 18,000.
No fighters have been announced for the card as of yet, but the UFC should have no problem lining up Brazilian natives as many of the top athletes in the sport have migrated from Brazil throughout the years.
The Press Conference announcement also interestingly had Brazilian born UFC fighter, Anderson Silva, Vitor Belfort, Royce Gracie, and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Perhaps this is what we can expect for the big return to Brazil.
