The Ultimate Fighter season 16 finale will be taking place tonight (Dec. 15) from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Headlining the event is a heavyweight showdown between TUF coach Roy Nelson and late stand-in Matt Mitrione for an injured Shane Carwin. Also on the card is another fight with knockout implications as Pat “HD” Barry takes on newcomer Shane Del Rosario in the co-main.

265 lbs.: Roy Nelson vs. Matt Mitrione
Roy Nelson defeats Matt Mitrione via KO (Uppercut and punches) – Round 1, 2:58

Round 1- Nelson and Mitrione trade punches, but Mitrione seems to be winning the exchanges with his kicks. A minute in and Nelson ties it up against the cage working for the takedown. Mitrione reverses and goes back to the center of the cage to continue exchanging strikes. Nelson is catching punches, but Mitrione continues to kick him. It is all over Nelson lands a big upper cut and curls up until the fight is called.

170 lbs.: Mike Ricci vs. Colton Smith (TUF 16 tournament final)
Colton Smith defeats Mike Ricci by Unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)

Round 1- Colton Smith immediately shot for a takedown, but Ricci defended well and threw multiple elbows to Smith’s head. They gauge each other as they reset standing up. Smith shoots for another takedown and transitions to Ricci’s back. Ricci defends well and works back to the feet. Eventually, Smith works back to the ground after backpedaling away from Ricci. Smith wins 10-9

Round 2- The round opens and Ricci catches a low blow. The fighters tell the ref, but he does not stop it and Ricci has to continue. Smith takes the back for another rear naked choke, but Ricci defends and escapes. The wrestling of Smith is winning him this fight as he takes the back again with a minute and a half to go. Smith spends the rest of the round on Ricci’s back. He worked multiple submissions and punched away at Ricci. Smith wins 10-9.

Round 3- The trade leg kicks until Smith once again goes to the ground and takes Ricci’s back. Ricci makes barely any moves to escape, and continues to get peppered with punches. In the last thirty-seconds, Ricci shoots for a Hail Mary by reversing Smith and almost attaining an armbar. Nothing comes of it, and we finish with Smith, once again, on Ricci’s back. Smith wins 10-9. 

265 lbs.: Pat Barry vs. Shane Del Rosario
Pat Barry defeats Shane Del Rosario via knockout (Punches) – Round 2, 0:26

Round one-  It starts as a stalemate on the feet, but Del Rosario continually worked for the takedown. Once he got the takedown he was in control. He tried about four submissions, but none of them stuck as Barry was able to escape. Del Rosario took the first round based off of control.

Round 2- Barry hurts Rosario and hopped across the cage lunging to throw punches. Once they reached the cage it was over as Barry finished Rosario with punches.

155 lbs.: Melvin Guillard vs. Jamie Varner

145 lbs.: Jonathan Brookins vs. Dustin Poirier
