“The Mauler” has done it again. Alexander Gustafsson has taken out the former UFC champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC on Fox 5 in Seattle, Washington. It was a three round war with the younger opponent outclassing a veteran once again.

Gustafsson displayed a true mixed martial arts performance as he escaped danger in the form of a deep heel hook submission in the first. Going on to pull off multiple takedowns throughout as well as stunning his opponent to the body in the third. He may have not earned the finish, yet it more-so speaks to the heart of “Shogun” Rua.

Official: Alexander Gustafsson defeats Mauricio Rua via unanimous decision 30-27, 30-27, 30-26

According to UFC President Dana White, Gustafsson is now a title contender, as White had announced that the winner would be the next title contender. With six straight in an unstable division, we wouldn’t argue. As we’ve seen in the past, anything can change from now to April 2013 when Chael Sonnen takes on Jon Jones for the title.
