If people knew in advance that UFC on FX 8 was going to feature one of the best finishing techniques in recent memory, yes, Vitor Belfort’s spinning heel kick, then the card may have broken ratings records. According to a report from MMA Fighting.com’s Dave Meltzer, however, the memorable event drew average ratings for UFC on FX cards.

The May 18th event reportedly drew an average of 1.3 million viewers, which is the same figure the previous  seven primetime, main card broadcasts on FX have averaged. The top drawing FX card to date was UFC on FX 7, which drew 1.86 million viewers. That event featured Belfort taking on Michael Bisping (as well as another head kick) in the main event.

Bisping is of course a big and recognizable name with casual MMA fans, due to the fact he’s been fighting in the UFC for years and has been featured on TUF. So, it’s not surprising that card pulled more than Belfort vs. Luke Rockhold.

UFC on FX 8 also featured the Octagon debut of Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, who like Rockhold, has been scoring notable wins in recent years but outside the UFC. All things considered the card pulled solid numbers.
