The past few weeks have been a bit of a downer for fans of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

An improved drug testing system has revealed a greater problem with illegal performance enhancing drug use than many expected. Recent busts, as reported here at Caged Insider, include welterweight contender Hector Lombard and returning legend Anderson Silva.

Of course, those failures came on the heels on the news that UFC cover boy and pound-for-pound entrant Jon Jones had tested positive for cocaine.

It’s easy to forget why we watch at all — but then, we remember: great fights.

Luckily a great fight was revealed today by our friends at MMA in Asia, and it’s between two of the most popular fighters among the MMA world’s lighter weight divisions.

Former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar is said to have been scheduled to square off with former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber on May 16.

That fight will evidently serve as the main event of the UFC’s first trip to the Philippines, at UFC Fight Night 65, aka UFC Fight Night Manila.

Interestingly, a weight division for the bout was not specified.

Faber has been competing at bantamweight of late, including an unsuccessful bid for the UFC Bantamweight Championship at UFC 169 last February. Edgar has been competing at featherweight since February 2013.

UFC Fight Night 65 will take place at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay (Metro Manila), Philippines. Per the UFC official website, it will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1, and not UFC Fight Pass as originally announced.
