The third UFC on FOX Sports 1 card has received another pivotal match-up, as top ten bantamweights T.J. Dillashaw and Raphael Assuncao will reportedly throw down on the card. UFC on FS1 3 will take on September 4th, and will be hosted by the Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
The Brazilian publication Globo.com is reporting the bantamweight tilt, however, the UFC has not announced the bout yet.
Dillashaw (8-1) has continued to impress since he was stopped by Jon Dodson at the TUF 14 finale in December, 2011, as the Team Alpha Male member has won four straight fights. During his ongoing run, Dillashaw has scored wins over Walel Watson, Vaughan Lee, Iseei Tamura and most recently Hugo Vianna. The former NCAA Division 1 wrestler currently sits at #9 in the UFC’s bantamweight rankings.
Assuncao (20-4) has won four consecutive bouts since he decided to drop down from featherweight, following a knockout loss to Erik Koch in March, 2011. The BJJ black is coming off victories over Johnny Eduardo, Tamura, Mike Easton and most recently the aforementioned Lee, to secure the #6 position in the division.
At first look, that is a pretty intriguing fight, due to the skill sets of each fighter and where they sit in the division.
UFC on FS1 3 will be headlined by a light-heavyweight tilt between Ryan Bader and Glover Teixeira and will also feature a notable middleweight scrap between Yushin Okami and “Jacare” Souza. Perennial contender Joseph Benavidez is also scheduled to fight flyweight contender Jussier “Formiga” that night as well.
