Shortly after the news of  the UFC opting to have Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (32-10) finish out his final fight on contract against fellow former champion and Pride FC opponent Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (20-6); Rampage says it won’t be anytime soon. Quinton has tweeted that he will need to undergo double-knee surgery following his recent loss to Ryan Bader in Japan.

“2 keep it real, the Shogun fight will have 2 wait,I just found out that I have 2 get surgery on both knees,” Jackson tweeted. “But I heal fast don’t trip.”

Rampage had cited injuries prior to his last bout as the cause of missing weight at UFC  144. Jackson had explained to interviewer Ariel Helwani that the injury kept him from his cardio runs, which now makes since with the news of the knee injuries. Rampage had recently also tweeted that the UFC was aware of his injury and still criticized his performance and lack of ‘professionalism’ making weight.

The aftermath of the criticism by UFC brass and fans seems to have pushed Jackson to publicly announce his planned split from his long time employers at Zuffa following the delayed Shogun rematch. Jackson has been very adamant in saying that this is the last you will see of him in the octagon and not combat sports in general.
