Taking to his Twitter page Tuesday evening, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson revealed that he was close to signing a bout agreement for an upcoming fight. The post leaves few clues as to who the opponent may be, but is in keeping with Jackson’s notorious sense of humor: “almost ready 2 sign the bout agreement! i would tell yall who im gonna get down with, but i cant spell his name….hahaha”
Many in the internet mixed martial arts news community are speculating that Jackson’s opponent will be former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. UFC President Dana White previously hinted at this fight, sparking a wave of interest from mma fans worldwide. Some sources, however, have claimed that Rampage did not want this fight, but rather wanted a fight against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, who is scheduled to fight Ryan Bader at UFC 119.
Jackson is coming off a loss to Rashad Evans, and Machida is coming off his first loss to current light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. If the fight between Jackson and Machida is made, one cannot help but think that the winner would be in the title contention, as both are former champions with solid reputations.
