Conor McGregor’s plans to take over the MMA world appear to have hit a snag.
According to multiple reports, UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos has suffered a broken foot and will not make the March 5 main event at UFC 196.
McGregor, the reigning UFC featherweight champion, was looking to become the first-ever two-division champion at the same time in the promotion.
This marks yet another change in planned opponents for “Notorious,” as he was scheduled to meet Jose Aldo last year before the then-UFC champion pulled out. McGregor went on to claim the interim title vs. Chad Mendes before winning the unified belt in December vs. Aldo.
The UFC 196 card also features Holly Holm defending her bantamweight belt against Miesha Tate.
Shortly after news broke of the injury, McGregor’s head coach, John Kavanagh, made a post on Twitter:

Officials appear to be working on a replacement. We’ll continue to update the situation.
