Yoshizo Machida, father and master of current UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida, is saying let them fight. Yoshizo feels that there should be only one true champion, and to find this out he proclaims Machida, his son, must fight Anderson Silva.

“There is only one champion, so I believe this fight must happen. It’s a professional issue, and I believe they can fight. Deep down, everyone wants to know who is strongest. Friendship is friendship, but they’re not amateurs. The eventual winner isn’t my concern. What matters to me is how they win, and their strategy. This would be a mental battle.”

I am on the fence for this one, I can see why they wouldn’t want to fight because they are friends. We as fans are so quick to say screw that just get in the cage – but if I were a fighter I don’t think I could fight my close friend and attack him 100%, I would hold back no matter how hard I tried to ignore at fight time that he was my friend.

However, this would be an epic fight, both fighters are the perfect examples of the MMA elite and are true champions. To deny such a challenge from either fighter would leave doubts for fans and fighters alike for who is truly the better fighter, and as fighters at their level they have nothing else to prove to the world or the fans and at their stage it becomes more of an inner challenge. How can I personally improve, who can I face that will bring out the best in me? It’s no longer about belts, fame or money, it’s purely about the challenge and the sport.  Well thats my two cents, how do you guys feel?
