TUF 8 finalist Phillipe Nover made his long-awaited return to the Octagon today at UFC Fight Night: Manila, and though the hard-hitting jiu-jitsu black belt earned the split decision over tough South Korean Yui Chul Nam, the victory was not without controversy.

For three rounds the duo battled, with Nover starting out strong and imposing his will with stifling takedowns. But Rounds 2 and 3 saw Nam put Nover on his back and release some killer ground and pound, and, well, UFC president Dana White summed it up succinctly with this tweet:

Regardless of the baggage attached to the result, a “W” is a “W”, and that means we’ll likely get to to see the Filipino-American fighter in action again.

And that ain’t a bad thing.
