A bout between two of the top fighters in the women’s strawweight division was announced yesterday, for the UFC’s Fight Night event December 10: Paige VanZant (pictured above) and Joanne Calderwood.

The promotion made the announcement via Twitter:

The bout, which will serve as the main event of a UFC Fight Night event in Las Vegas on Dec 10, will be the first headline bout for both fighters.

VanZant had announced earlier in the week that she had signed a new contract with the UFC. The popular 21 year old will enter the bout on a four fight win streak, including all three of her UFC appearances. Earlier this month, she defeated Alex Chambers by armbar submission to bring her MMA record to 9-1. A native of Oregon, Vanzant now trains out of Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, California.

Calderwood, of Scotland, is coming off an emotional win in her home country back in July. That night, “JoJo” rebounded from an upset loss in her previous bout to dominate Cortney Casey and win a unanimous decision. She is also noted for her appearance on the 20th season of The Ultimate Fighter, and is 9-1 overall in her MMA career.

The December 10 Fight Night event will begin a busy weekend for the UFC. The Ultimate Fighter Season 22 Finale will be the next day, to be headlined by Frankie Edgar vs. Chad Mendes. UFC 194, which includes the long-awaited featherweight title bout between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor, will follow on the 12th.
