Number one UFC heavyweight contender has been accused of committing misdemeanor battery on a female Jan. 2 at the Wynn hotel, following an altercation between the two. No officers were on scene, but Overeem was caught up with and handed a citation issued by Las Vegas police which stated“at about 3 a.m. on Jan. 2, Overeem pushed or shoved a woman in the face, “causing her to stagger back.”
The penalty, should Overeem be found guilty carries up to six months in Clark Counties detention center. The Reem is expected to appear before the judge Feb. 21, 8 a.m. and has already hired famed defense attorney David Chesnoff. Chesnoff commented this on the issue:
“Alistair was not arrested, but was summoned to court,” Chesnoff said. “There are two sides to this story and we intend on vigorously defending this. Alistair maintains his innocence.”
The incident allegedly came off the heals of Overeems first round destruction of Brock Lesnar in Las Vegas, NV. Unlikely we will see a jail sentence come to play, but if it did, the UFC would need to scramble to find a new challenge for champion Junior dos Santos.
