Nick Ring can’t get a break. As has been customary in the career of the unlucky Canadian, he has once again fallen prey to the injury bug. The news was first reported by MMAJunkie.com, who cited a source close to the event.
In his stead is TUF 17 participant, Josh Samman, who steps up on relatively short notice to face fellow TUF 17 alumni Uriah Hall on UFC on FOX Sports 1. The two will meet after their original much-anticipated meeting during the show was thwarted by eventual winner Kelvin Gastelum, when he knocked off Samman in the show’s semi-final match-up.
Hall and Samman both return after debuting on the TUF 17 Finale with differing results. Samman dispatched Kevin Casey with significant ease, winning by TKO in the second round. Hall, meanwhile, dropped a razor-thin split-decision to Gastelum in his first Octagon appearance, falling just short in winning the show’s 17th season.
UFC on FOX Sports 1, which takes place at the TD Garden in Boston, MA., goes down August 17th. The event marks the UFC’s debut on the FS1 network, which also makes its broadcast debut. Headlining this historic event is the much-talked-about battle between “Shogun” Rua and the silver-tongued Chael Sonnen.
