UFC 205 was special in that it was the organization’s first trip into New York City. It was also the first time the New York State Athletic Commission got to oversee an MMA event since the ban was lifted, so we got to see how they work.
And, uh, they work in mysterious ways.
Since the event a couple weeks ago, the Commission has suspended Yoel Romero for leaving the cage during his celebration of TKO’ing Chris Weidman.
They also suspended Thiago Alves three months for missing weight.
For Kelvin Gastelum, it’s a six-month suspension for not even stepping on the scale. Granted, his suspension is “administrative”, meaning it only applies in New York, but whatever.
The Commission is runnin’ wild.
