UFC recently signed wrestling champ Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis on to fight in the light heavyweight division.

Davis’ management team announced the signing today, but the terms of the deal have not been made known yet.

Davis’ teammate Brandon Vera Twittered about his signing on Tuesday.

“just got the wrd from my man Phil Mr. Wonderful Davis he just got his UFC contract!!! congratulations Phil! time to show the world!!!”

But Chad Dubin of LionHeart Management said a debut date for Davis has not yet been decided.

“We signed him yesterday to a UFC contract and we expect to have a date for his first fight soon,” Dubin said.

Davis on his being signed to UFC;

“It means a lot just to be on the biggest stage in mixed martial arts, to be with a great company. It’s a great place for me to start my career.”

He turned pro in 2008 when he came out as a four-time All-American and 2008 Division 1 national champ at Penn State. His career record of 116-20 includes a 26-1 mark during his senior year, when he won the national championship at 197 pounds.

“After college, when I decided to start training MMA, it was to become the best fighter in the world,” Davis said. “Fighting for the UFC will enable me to accomplish that goal.  Training and fighting is my life now, and I take this very seriously.”

In his mere  14 months of pro MMA competition, Davis has already marked a 4-0 record. His past three fights in organizations such as Palace Fighting Championships and Ultimate Warrior Challenge, were all won from first-round stoppages. Two by TKO and one by submission.

Davis is currently training at the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, CA and at the Alliance Training Center in San Diego.
