There are a lot of good, intriguing match-ups on tap for UFC 171 on Saturday. Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks are going to bust heads to become the new welterweight champion, Carlos Condit and Tyron Woodley are going to make their case for being a top contender, and Jake Shields and Hector Lombard are going to fight for the honor of Strikeforce and Bellator, respectively. But one bout on the card is worthy of scrutiny not because it promises any sort of grand display of violence or has great title implications. No, when Diego Sanchez and Myles Jury clash on the main card, all will be seeking clues to an answer to the burning question: How much time left for Diego Sanchez?

The clock is ticking on the career of “The Nightmare”/”The Dream”. He won TUF 1 oh so many years ago, had his title bid against BJ Penn and fell woefully short, and has slowly gotten a step slower with each passing year. Sanchez is still good for an insane scrap of course. He fought his heart out against Gilbert Melendez, and we all loved him for the effort. But more and more these wars he engages in are clear-cut losing efforts… and a fighter with no hope of winning isn’t long for the UFC.

Anyway, here’s a countdown video of Sanchez and Jury. Watch it, get motivated like Sanchez does, and then see him perform on Saturday night. There aren’t going to be many more times we’ll see our pal Diego in the Octagon. Let’s enjoy them while we can.
