Heading into UFX on FOX 8, Jake Ellenberger has raised a few eyebrows with some of the warnings he’s sent Rory MacDonald’s way, and now Jorge Masvidal has relayed he doesn’t think much of his next opponent, Michael Chiesa.

Although Chiesa won TUF 15 last year by choking out Al Iaquinta, and followed up with a submission win over Anton Kuivanen in April, Masvidal doesn’t sound too worried about what he’ll face on July 27th. While speaking to MMA Junkie.com Radio recently, the rugged vet noted:

“There’s nothing nowhere that impresses me about him,” said Masvidal, who scored a UD win over former KOTC champ Tim Means in his Octagon debut at UFC on FOX 7. “He’s like a watered-down Royce Gracie. I don’t see anything on this guy.

“I’m excited about getting a W against anybody at lightweight, but especially against this guy. They’re giving me money at this point.”

Now considering Masvidal (24-7) has fought over 20 more times than Chiesa (9-0), and has faced notable opposition like Gilbert Melendez, KJ Noons, and Paul Daley in the past, it’s not surprising to hear he’s pretty confident heading into the fight. But there’s “nothing” about Chiesa that impresses him? Wow.

Masvidal did note that  “Anyone can get caught”, but “nine times out of 10, I don’t think this guy has anything for me. I’ve fought better grapplers than him.” We’ll find out soon enough.

UFC on FOX 8 will be hosted by Seattle’s Key Arena and will see flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson take on John Moraga in the main event.
