ANAHEIM – Lyoto Machida continues to make his case for a rematch with Jon Jones as he takes out former top contender Dan Henderson at UFC 157.

It was a game of counters with an elusive Lyoto Machida picking apart Dan Henderson throughout three rounds. The fight had Machida landing major strikes in the first, including a takedown. A somewhat uneventful second round with Machida landing slightly more significant strikes (UFC stats). Third should fairly go to Henderson as he earned the takedown and held top control for most of the third.

Official: Lyoto Machida defeats Dan Henderson via split-decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Machida now holds two wins back-to-back after losing his title fight to Jon Jones in a standing guillotine. Prior to the loss the former champ was 16-2, only losing to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. White has mentioned that the winner of tonight’s bout would ‘likely’ be next in line for a title shot, but the same was also said about Alexander Gustafsson, should he get past Gegard Mousasi in April.
