At least one fighter did not heed Dana White’s recent warning to take it easy for the next week before UFC on FOX 5 since Lavar Johnson has unfortunately injured himself… Johnson is suffering from a pulled groin which was most likely sustained from training. While this injury takes off a very intriguing heavyweight bout from the undercard that was scheduled to air on FX, it is even worse for Brendan Schaub. For Schaub, he will not get a replacement fighter even thought the fight card is still a week out. The UFC has decided to pull Schaub off the card entirely, as he is very frustrated, but promises the fans to be back in training, ready to fight anytime soon.

This does open up a great spot for two different fights. First, the Johnson and Schaub bout was supposed to headline the undercard that aired on FX. So now, another match-up could take the spot, it would likely be the rescheduled bout between Yves Edwards and Jeremy Stephens which has fireworks written all over it. Also, a fight from the Facebook portion of the undercard will most likely be bumped up to the FX portion. That will allow the participants more exposure, and maybe even more potential for higher income from sponsors. Only time will tell if the match between Schaub and Lavar will be made, but more likely Schaub will replace a heavyweight if someone is injured or has to drop out of the card.
