After derailing the Uriah Hall hype train at the TUF 17 Finale in April (as much as one can do via split decision), Kelvin Gastelum will have his second official UFC bout against Brian Melancon at UFC Fight Night 27 on August 28th. Considering Gastelum has gone 6-0 to date and is the latest “Ultimate Fighter”, there’s a lot of understandable buzz behind the welterweight now, and it will be interesting to see how he does against the Strikeforce vet. While the name Melancon may not ring a bell with some fans just yet, if you caught his Octagon debut versus Seth Baczynski, then you know the guys has some power in his fists.

Gastelum recently spoke with RM Sports about his pre-fight diet, and the undefeated fighter revealed that he’s enlisted the help of this weight cutting guru to prepare for Melancon (as published first by

“Fight week is just weight cutting week pretty much. I’m really strict on what I eat that week. I lower my portions down, but I’m going to be working with Mike Dolce, so I don’t have to worry about that. That’s why I got him, it’s because I don’t want to worry about that and he’s the best at what he does.”

Dolce has of course work with many of the sport’s biggest names, and aside from his fall out with “Rampage” Jackson, the veteran fighter has drawn considerable praise for his weight cutting methods. In other words, it sounds like Gastelum is in good hands.

UFC Fight Night 27 will be hosted by the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and will feature Carlos Condit taking on fellow welterweight contender Martin Kampmann in the main event.
