The rematch is on. During last nights post fight press conference for UFC on FX 3, Dana White announced that Junior Dos Santos and Cain Velasquez’s rematch will happen in Canada at UFC 152. The event is set to take place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on September 22. Of course this is barring any injuries which fight cards have been plagued with recently.
Dos Santos and Velasquez first met at the inaugural UFC on Fox card last November. In the meet, Dos Santos finished the fight via knockout in the first 64 seconds. Cain and fans alike hope that this one turns out to be longer than the first meet. Since Cain rebounded nicely with a first round drubbing of Antonio Silva, he looks to be the fighter he was prior to his torn rotator cuff injury suffered in October. Dos Santos has stayed busy as well, taking out former two time champion Frank Mir within two rounds as he predicted.
This may all just be a place holder until Alistair Overeem’s return, since White has proclaimed that “The Reem’s” number one contender spot should still be in place upon his return. That fight could potentially take place at the UFC’s annual New Year’s eve card, if all turns out well since Alistair will need to reapply for a fight license in late December. The only question is, would the UFC risk another title fight on Overeem with such little padding of time?
