Josh Barnett is a familiar face to Japanese MMA fans.
The former UFC heavyweight champion has fought in the “Land of the Rising Sun” more than a dozen times, most notably for PRIDE FC during that promotion’s heyday.
Just as notably, he has been a presence in the Japanese pro wrestling scene for more than a decade. Barnett has appeared in dozens of matches for New Japan Pro Wrestling and Inoki Genome Federation.
So it’s something of a homecoming this weekend, as the Seattle native returns to Japan for a UFC Fight Night event to face Roy Nelson. In contrast, the event will mark only the second fight in Japan for Nelson, who is 20-11 as a professional.
However, Barnett, whose MMA career stands at 33-7, won’t have all the comforts of home, so to speak.
The fighter sent a message via his Twitter account today to the folks at Delta Airlines who apparently lost his luggage:
(Note that the event begins on Sunday local time, but due to difference in time zones will actually start Saturday here in North America.)
US international wrestling standout Tony Ramos responded with some advice for Barnett.
Credit to MyMMANews for originally reporting this story. No word if his opponent Nelson has had any better luck.
