$20,000 seems like a good chunk of change to most people, but when your livelihood depends on it, that really isn’t much money at all.

Earlier this week, it was reported that UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones signed a deal with Nike, and everyone assumed that Jones would be rolling in the dough, but apparently not.

This week on the MMA Hour, Ariel Helwani reported that according to an inside source, Jones was making chump change off his deal with the company.

“What I heard from one source, just one, was that it was a one year deal worth $20,000. That’s what I heard, but I have not been able to confirm that with multiple sources. One source very close to Jon, by the way, I should say. It’s not like it’s just source you know out of the blue.”

As mentioned before, athletes make their livelihood on sponsorships, so the fact that one of the very top fighters in MMA is only making $20k on a deal is rather shocking, and hopefully for Jones’ sake, the insider heard wrong.
