Early this morning (5 am) in Binghamton, NY, UFC light heavyweight champ, Johnny ‘Bones’ Jones was taken into custody by Broome County sheriffs for DUI. Reports from TMZ.com are that Jones had crashed his new Bentley into a pole while intoxicated. Jones has since been released on bail by his mother, living near in Ithaca, NY.

The news comes off the heels of Jones completing his third UFC title defense against adversary Rashad Evans on April 21. The news should not affect Jones’ upcoming bout against Dan Henderson on Sept. 1 in Las Vegas, NV, but will need to address the incident with his employers.

Here’s what Jones’ management had to say on the issue.

“I can confirm that Jon Jones was arrested early this morning on suspicion of DUI. While the facts of this situation are still being gathered and situated, First Round Management fully supports Jon and we are asking for fans and media to respect the privacy of Jon and his family during this time.”
