It could of been yours New York. Instead, the UFC will once again return to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey for their first big 2014 event. The promotion has verified that the headline bout for UFC 169 will be between light heavyweight champ Jon Jones (of New York) and top contender Glover Teixeira on Feb. 1, 2014. Yes, Super Bowl weekend.

The annual blockbuster stacks up, now picking up Frank Mir vs. Alistair Overeem from their originally planned  Nov. 16th card.  The UFC cites Mir needing more time for recovery from injury.

“While there was no indication whatsoever that Mir wouldn’t be fully, medically cleared in time to compete on November 16th, UFC officials and Nevada Commission representatives believed that a short postponement would allow both athletes more time to train for the bout,” said the UFC in a statement.

The champ asked for it and he received Teixeira. After fans called for a rematch of the close fight between Jones and Alexander Gustafsson, Jones would deny the bout, saying that he’d rather have a fresh match-up, instead of a rematch. Similar to what he had said about Machida during talks of a rematch. Either way, the Liddell protege, Teixeira is more than glad to test the chin of Jones once again.
