An ankle injury has forced Jon Jones off the UFC 178 card, and his much anticipated UFC Light Heavyweight title defense against Daniel Cormier has been moved to January of next year.

The injury is said to have happened in camp as Jones was training for the bout. The fight was to take place September 27 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Demetrious Johnson will now face Chris Caraiso in the main event of UFC 178 — in a re-shuffling of bouts from UFC 177.

UFC 177 will take place in Sacramento, California on August 30. Oddly, Jones was reportedly planned to headline that event originally.

Jones’ bout with Cormier has been moved to January 3rd in an event to be named later.

Caged Insider will follow up on the story later.
