It looks like the next contender for the newest belt in the UFC may be found out soon. John Dodson is set to take on Jussier da Silva at UFC on FX  5. The event takes place on October 5th, at the Target center in Minneapolis.  The card could potentially be headlined by a heavyweight match between rising star Travis Browne and Antonio Silva, and this bout may easily co-headline, since both of these fighters could be the next contender in a division light on top competition.

John Dodson earned his way into the UFC by winning The Ultimate Fighter in the first ever bantamweight edition of the show. His run was highlighted with a knockout of runner up TJ Dillashaw, he then promptly dropped to 125 and won a match against a tough Tim Elliot. John brings a bit of notoriety to his name having been a winner of TUF, and his energy is matched by none. To challenge for the title in such a new division you do need to have a name in the sport if you are to headline a PPV.

da Silva may not have a name, but he could earn it with a win over Dodson. He has been signed to the UFC for quite some time, but it took a while to come up with a good opponent. Coming from Jose Aldo’s camp, he’s another contender for a belt from Nova Uniao. His only loss over 15 fights comes by former title contender Ian McCall, and he has finished his last 4 opponents by submission. While not known to the everyday fan, a win over Dodson will get his name out there, and make his case for a title shot.
