This Saturday at UFC Fight Night 26, Alistair Overeem will be gunning for his first victory, since he blasted through Brock Lesnar at UFC 141. It may seem just like yesterday when Overeem folded Lesnar over like a lawn chair with that crushing liver kick, but it’s been nearly two years.

After the bout, Lesnar announced he was done with MMA, as the powerful wrestler had been battling diverticulitis for months. Then, last year, there was rumours the former heavyweight champ might take another run at fighting, but Lesnar has been performing for the WWE since.

So, considering that he’s healthier and continues to wrestle professionally, is there any chance the massive fighter could return to the UFC? Here’s what the 36 year-old recently had to say (quote via WrestleNewz as originally reported by the LA Times).

“That chapter in my life has come to closure, and I’m comfortable with it.” Lesnar said, “You’ve always got that part in your mind. I do miss it, but I’ve got to keep myself in check. What I went through the last few years was quite traumatic, not being able to fight like I wanted. I got back on the horse way too soon. Coulda, shoulda, woulda.”

Regardless of whether you’re a Lesnar fan or not, it’s hard to argue that things weren’t pretty interesting when he was throwing down in the Octagon.
