Surprise, surprise! It appears that Holly Holm – who dethroned uber-champ Ronda Rousey in November in the most stunning of upsets – will not be rematching with Rousey in her next fight.

As per Dana White on “UFC Tonight“:

“Holly Holm will fight before she fights Ronda again.”

Does this mean Rousey is… dare I say it? Done with fighting?

“You will see Ronda Rousey fight again. She’s dedicated the last three years to working hard, fighting, promoting, and taking the UFC to the next level. She’s taking some well-deserved time off. But you’ll see her fight again.”

It was assumed, given the monster numbers Rousey vs. Holm I did, that the immediate rematch was sure to come, and White was very vocal about supporting that match-up. But something changed since then (Holm just signed a new contract with the UFC), and now it appears the new champ will get what she wants and not have to sit out waiting for Rousey to return.

Rumors have Miesha Tate as Holm’s next opponent, but nothing has been made official.
