Johny Hendricks has continued to prove to be the top contender in the welterweight division as he dismantles yet another top opponent in former interim champ Carlos Condit (28-7) at UFC 158 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

The two would land huge shots, going back and forth, but it was Hendricks with the bigger power shots (left hooks of course) and takedowns which made the difference. Majority of flying knees landed by Condit were followed up with impressive power takedowns.

During the second round it became very apparent that Hendricks was fighting with an injured left hand. It didn’t change an iota,  as he continued to throw it in the third with no regard. Taking it down again late in the round, Hendricks guaranteed the unanimous decision.

Official: Johny Hendricks defeats Carlos Condit via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Hendricks has been calling for a title shot since his knockout win over former contender Jon Fitch in 2011, and now he will likely be granted. It would be hard to deny for the UFC as he takes out six straight in the division, mostly by viscous first round knockout. There is only one possible issue left for Hendricks – a proposed super-fight between champ Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva. That last obstacle could change tonight however as Nick Diaz attempts to put a stop to St-Pierre’s reign in the main event.
