While there’s been plenty of discussion recently about where free agent Ben Askren will fight next, there’s also been a lot of talk regarding a possible bout between the Bellator champ and his UFC counterpart Georges St. Pierre. Of course, a large part of that has to do with Askren’s various comments about St. Pierre (like that he’s not MMA’s best wrestler), and Bellator’s Bjorn Rebney daring the UFC to give “Funky” an immediate title shot.

So, is St. Pierre interested in fighting the undefeated fighter and decorated wrestler? While speaking to MMA Junkie.com, here’s what the P4P contender had to say:

“Of course (I’d like to fight him),” St-Pierre said. “He’s a good fighter, undefeated, and yes, if he comes, I’ll fight him. No problem.”

“Bring him in; I’ll fight everyone,” St-Pierre added. “I am the champion, and I have no choice, so it’s no problem. I’m not afraid.”

Interesting. It should be added that St. Pierre said he’d fight Askren right off the bat as well, as in, the latter wouldn’t have to take out a top contender first.

So could this happen? If GSP gets by Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 and ZUFFA signs Askren? Probably not until after Askren defeats a big name in the Octagon. As the fighter’s own coach Duke Roufus relayed recently, the UFC would need to build Askren up for its fans, get some promo footage of him first.
