Shortly after the announcement of a lightweight title fight between Benson Henderson and Gilbert Melendez on UFC on Fox 7, the newly presented card adds another highly anticipated match, as former Olympian Daniel Cormier looks to make his debut against former champ Frank Mir. The two were originally expected to meet in Strikeforce promotions, however the bout was called off, due to Mir pulling out with an undisclosed injury. The upcoming FOX card is set to take place on April 20 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA.

Cormier was last seen fulfilling his final Strikeforce fight against newcomer and Blackzillian member Dion Staring on Jan. 12. It only took the undefeated wrestling standout two dominating rounds to end the fight by TKO (punches). Now 11-0, Cormier plans to implement the game-plan he devised originally for Mir. Oddly enough, for Cormier, win or lose, he has said that he will likely move down to light heavyweight where he plans to take the light heavyweight title from Jon Jones, after an assumed victory over Chael Sonnen in April.

Frank Mir may have floundered in his recent title shot against former champ Junior dos Santos, but theĀ  submission specialist is still a dangerous opponent for anyone at heavyweight. Prior to the loss, Mir had racked up three straight, including the likes of Pride legend Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera, Roy “Big Country” Nelson and Mirko CroCop.
