It’s been kind of quiet on the Benson Henderson front lately, due to his submission loss to Anthony Pettis at UFC 164, but it looks like “Smooth” is mapping out plans for his return. Although his arm got banged up in the August 31st scrap, there was no structural damage and as a result, Henderson should be ready to fight fairly soon.

While appearing on the latest edition of “The MMA Hour“, Henderson had this to say about who he’s interested in fighting next.

“We’re kind of leaning towards Rafael dos Anjos,” said Henderson, who defended the lightweight title three times before losing it to Pettis. “We think it would be a good fight with him, entertaining, a good fight, and I think the match-up works well for us. I don’t know if he has anybody scheduled or not.”

Dos Anjos continues to rise up the lightweight ranks thanks to a five fight win streak, which includes victories over established vets like Mark Bocek, Evan Dunham and Donald Cerrone. Although dos Anjos recently called for a fight with TJ Grant, as a means to lock up a title shot, a win over Henderson could do the same.

And what about a rematch with Gilbert Melendez? Who he narrowly beat in April? Henderson stated:

“I will admit my initial impression is, Gilbert, I’m not really too interested in rematches,” said Henderson. “To get my title back? I’ll do any rematch, I’ll fight somebody ten times, doesn’t matter. But not too interested in rematches…I guess the drive, the desire is not there, whatever you want to call it.”

Whether it’s dos Anjos or not, there’s little doubt Henderson will face a top contender next.
