It’s been a rocky two years for the AKA team leader, Jon Fitch. Originally scheduled to make his return against Aaron Simpson at UFC on Fuel: Munoz vs. Weidman on July 11 in San Jose, CA – Fitch will now need to sit it out in order to heal a knee injury suffered in practice. Simpson is expected to remain on the card, as the search for a new opponent starts.

In 2011 Fitch would end his climb back into title contention, after a majority decision draw against BJ Penn. An immediate rematch was scheduled, but Fitch was forced to withdraw due to a shoulder injury. Making his return in Dec. 2011, Fitch suffered a 12 second knockout at the hands of Johny Hendricks.

NCAA Division I All-American wrestler, Simpson currently stands with an impressive 7-1 record. Following his first loss via split-decision against Ronny Markes at UFC on Fuel 1 in Feb., the 37-year-old made the decision to premiere at the 170 pound division.
