Former number one middleweight contender in the UFC, Patrick Cote reported via his Twitter today that he has been released by the UFC. This coming after his third loss in the Octagon against Tom Lawlor via unanimous decision at UFC 121.

Cote was best known as GSP’s trainng partner and for his title shot against Anderson Silva at UFC 90 back in October 2008. A fight that Silva seemed to had not taken serious before Cote popped his knee out of place in the fight, causing his first string of losses.

Following the bout Cote underwent major ACL knee surgery, and returned to fight the tenacious Alan Belcher. A bout he would lose via rear naked choke. We expect to see the predator return to battle in another organization such as Strikeforce or Bellator soon.
