One of the planet’s best bantamweight fighters has his next assignment, as ONE FC has announced that its interim champ Bibiano Fernandes, will fight reigning champion Soo Chul Kim on October 18th. If you only follow the UFC and are thinking ‘Fernandes, that sounds familiar’, it’s because the renowned fighter opted to sign with ONE FC rather than the ZUFFA juggernaut last summer. The upcoming, unification fight will go down at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Fernandes (14-3), who is ranked #7 in the world by MMA, has rattled off three straight wins since making his ONE FC debut last August. In May, the 33 year-old Brazilian worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Koetsu Okazaki to lay claim to ONE FC’s interim bantamweight belt. The only men to defeat the jiu-jitsu star to date are Hiroyuki Takeya, Urijah Faber and “Kid” Yamamoto, and Fernandes has gone 9-1 in his last 10 fights. You can see why the UFC was interested in acquiring his services.

Kim (7-4) hasn’t fought now since last October, when he took out Leandro Issa to win ONE FC’s bantamweight championship. Kim avenged  a unanimous decision loss he incurred versus Issa at a 2011, ONE FC event.

The 21 year-old Kim, who has won three in a row,  has been dealing with a shoulder injury in 2013 and has yet to compete this year.

So, it’s definitely a compelling fight for hardcore fans, and it will be interesting to see if Fernandes can add ONE FC’s title to a trophy case, which already includes DREAM’s featherweight and bantamweight belts. The card will be available for viewing in North America via online pay-per-view.
