The UFC Hall of Famer has not hung it up yet, despite the rumors of Matt Hughes retirement from the sport, following the change in management at Hughes HIT Squad in Granite City, Illinois.

UFC president Dana White was recently quoted on saying Hughes and Sanchez are verbally agreed to fight each other later this fall.

“A matchup between two welterweight fan favorites has been verbally agreed to as Diego ‘The Dream’ Sanchez will face former UFC welterweight champion and Hall of Famer Matt Hughes,”

No exact date or venue for the match up has been specified at this time. This notably however puts an end to Royce Gracie’s desire to rematch Hughes at the upcoming UFC Rio card.

The man formerly known as “The Nightmare“, Diego Sanchez recently stated he has evolved into “The Dream” pulling off back-to-back victories in his welterweight return. With impressive performances over Paulo Thiago and a controversial decision over Martin Kampmann Sanchez will look to solidify is ranking in the stacked welterweight division with a win over a legend in the sport.

Hughes recently dropped a three fight win-streak when he was knocked out early in the first by an invigorated BJ Penn. The former reigning welterweight champ will look to rebound in the division at the age of 37.
