Two-time UFC lightweight contender, Kenny Florian (13-5) will once again make a lifestyle change as he drops down a weight class to debut at the newly added UFC 145 lb. featherweight division against Brazilian, Diego Nunes (16-1).
Interestingly Florian’s UFC debut started at 185 lb. on season one of ‘The Ultimate Fighter‘. Following the show Florian quickly made the cut to 170 lb., and two fights later a move to the 155 lb., lightweight division where he found success. Florian will now look to bounce back in a new division, following a loss to new top lightweight contender Gray Maynard at UFC 118 in Aug., a fight in which he was out-wrestled for three rounds.
Nunes, a highly toted up and comer in the featherweight division with an impressive record of 16-1 is currently riding a three fight win-streak against top featherweights Raphael Assuncao, Tyler Toner, and former champion Mike Brown. Nunes sole loss came at the hands of L.C. Davis at WEC 44 back in 2009.
UFC 131 is scheduled to take place June 11, 2011 at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia. Also expected to be on the card is Rob Broughton vs. Dave Herman and headliners Brock Lesnar vs Junior Dos Santos.
