Former IBF middleweight and super middleweight champion James Toney has yet to sign the contract to face former UFC light-heavyweight and heavyweight champion Randy Couture.

This comes as a surprise, considering Toney’s constant badgering of Dana White last November and December to join the UFC, a move that culminated in a multi-fight contract for the former boxing champion being signed last March.

According to, Couture confirmed on Tuesday that he has officially completed and delivered the contract needed to face the former pro boxer at UFC 118 on August 28th at the TD Garden in Boston. Couture confirmed that after numerous discussions between both camps as well as the UFC, the bout will not be a catch-weight fight, but rather a heavyweight bout.

It is unknown how Toney plans to prepare for this fight, although it has been recently rumored that he is currently training with Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion Mohammed “King Mo” Lawal. According to YouTube videos posted by Toney, he possesses a “side check leg kick” and his father was an “original death fighter,” which empowers the former pro boxer’s transition into MMA.

The bout is scheduled to take place on August 28th at the TD Garden in Boston on a card that also features a rematch between Frankie Edgar and B.J. Penn for the lightweight championship.
