The man that was seconds from stopping Anderson Silva’s destruction of the UFC middleweight division, Chael Sonnen will attempt to appeal his failed drug test back in September. The penalty of Sonnen’s failed PED’s test handed down is a one year suspension of his fighting license along with a $2500 fine by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC).

The appeal proceedings are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET, but have been pushed back to 4:00 p.m. ET. according to LA Times, Loretta Hunt. On the day of the failed drug test in question, Sonnen had admitted to the shot of testosterone in writing “1 shot” of testosterone, which he stated he took on Aug. 5, just two days before his title match with Silva.

Silva has since hired Attorney, Howard Jacobs to defend him in his proceedings today. It has been reported that Sonnen will be showing up with a prescription for for Testosterone Replacement Treatment (TRT) as his defense. However, CSAC executive, George Dodd suggests that that would be an invalid argument as Sonnen did not take the proper steps for approval of  TRT.

If Sonnen is to lose his appeal today he will continue his suspension until September 2, 2011. Either way, perhaps Sonnen could kill some time coaching a season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”
